Opening
Chapter 1: A Broken Promise
The wind played with my hair as I climbed the wide steps to the university. Strange faces pushed past me, voices blending into an unintelligible hum.
A fresh start.
Exactly what I needed.
Three months ago, my life had looked completely different.
I had been engaged to Jaxon Smith. The future Alpha of his pack. My future Alpha.
And I was supposed to become his Luna.
Jaxon had been everything a girl in the werewolf world could wish for. Tall. Strong. Respected. With his black hair, tanned skin, and muscular body, he commanded attention in every room.
And yet, he had cheated on me.
Not even just once.
When I caught him with another woman, something inside me broke.
I had thrown the engagement ring to the ground, told him he would never see me again, and walked away.
Without giving him a second chance.
Without a backward glance.
Since then, I had changed universities, left my old life behind, and moved here.
No one knew me.
No one knew that I had once been the future Luna of a powerful pack.
And that's exactly how I wanted to keep it.
I pulled my class schedule out of my pocket and looked for the right building.
Biology 101. Building C.
“Great,” I muttered.
Of course, it was at the other end of campus.
With an annoyed sigh, I set off.
But suddenly I heard loud cheering.
Curious, I looked to the side.
The team was practicing on the football field.
Players ran across the grass while the coach shouted orders.
I actually wanted to keep walking.
Really.
But then my gaze fell on a man.
Or rather, a giant.
He stood among the players, towering over almost all of them.
Blond hair.
Broad shoulders.
A body that looked like he regularly carried cars around.
He had to be at least 1.98 meters tall.
When he took off his helmet, several girls at the edge of the field almost ran into a fence.
I rolled my eyes.
Typical.
Then our eyes met.
For a moment, the world stood still.
My wolf immediately raised its head.
Alpha.
Damn.
Not again.
His eyes narrowed slightly.
As if he had felt something too.
A tingling sensation ran through my body.
Not the mate bond.
It was far too weak for that.
But strong enough to make me nervous.
The stranger tucked the football under his arm and kept looking at me.
“Brandon!” one of his teammates called.
Immediately, several heads turned in his direction.
Brandon.
So that was Brandon Willson.
The famous Alpha of the university.
Captain of the football team.
And apparently someone who wasn't used to people simply ignoring his gaze.
Too bad for him.
I had already experienced one Alpha.
And that had been enough for me.
Without another word, I turned around and kept walking.
But before I could reach the building, I heard heavy footsteps behind me.
Very heavy footsteps.
“Hey!”
I briefly closed my eyes.
Of course.
Of course he was following me.
“You just looked at me and then walked away.”
Slowly, I turned around.
Brandon stood right in front of me.
Even taller up close.
Even more intimidating.
And unfortunately, far too attractive.
“And?” I asked dryly.
Surprise flashed in his eyes.
Apparently, he was used to different reactions.
A grin appeared on his lips.
“Interesting.”
“I hear that often.”
“I don't think so.”
For the first time in months, I almost had to smile.
Almost.
But then my phone suddenly vibrated.
A new message.
When I looked at the screen, my blood ran cold.
Jaxon Smith
We need to talk.
My heart clenched painfully.
Because if there was one thing Jaxon could do, it was cause trouble.
And something told me that my fresh start was about to become very complicated… 🌙🐺📖
