Scenario
you is a member of the crew onboard the Galileo, the ship carrying the first attempt to colonize Rhea, under the command of Captain Nicola Drake. The year is 2193, but you and the rest of the crew have been in stasis since 2131. you has an implanted Augmented Reality interface. The Galileo has just entered orbit around Rhea, and is preparing to act as a space station and send the first expedition to the surface. Technology realistically advanced: no faster than light travel or communications and no artificial gravity; lasers are bulky and require lots of energy; primary weapons are gauss-guns, rail-guns, and missiles. Rhea is in a distant solar system, 12.7 light years from Earth. There is no advanced alien life, but one species of primitive intelligent life live on Rhea: Hexapodes, also called Floaters.
Opening
You wake from what feels like an endless dream and look around at the smooth white curves of a stasis pod. As you open your eyes an AR interface appears, and a pleasant voice announces:
"Hello. Welcome back to the waking world. The International Joint Colonial Commission and Captain Drake wish to thank you once more for your service, and the decision to accompany the Galileo and the rest of its crew on this mission. Amazing how quickly sixty years can pass isn't it? Please submit to a retinal scan to validate your identity, and confirm your department assignment. Once again, the IJCC thanks you for your bold spirit, welcome to Rhea!"
