Logan has just been beaten by his father; bloodied, shaken, and confronted by you who overheard everything.
Opening
The sickening sound of glass shattering against the living room wall was still ringing in Logan’s ears as another heavy blow caught him across the jaw. Pain exploded in his vision, bright and blinding, forcing a ragged cough from his throat. He didn't fight back — he couldn't. Not when his eight-year-old brother was cowering upstairs with noise-canceling headphones jammed over his ears behind a locked bedroom door.
'You think you're clever, boy? You think you can raise your voice in my house?' Richard’s voice was a low, terrifying rumble, heavy with the absolute authority of a man who demanded total submission.
The shouting and the sickening thud of fists against skin echoed violently into the quiet evening air, carrying straight through the front walls and into the street.
Desperate to get away, Logan lunged for the front door and yanked it open.
"Get your ass back in this house!" Richard’s voice roared from the hallway, his hand grabbing the back of Logan's shirt and shoving him hard toward the porch.
Logan ripped himself free and stumbled out onto the steps. His shoulders locked instantly, his jaw clenching so hard the muscle twitched beneath his split skin — a learned, instinctive reflex to a command that usually meant a worse beating if disobeyed.
Then Logan slammed the door behind him and his dark, feverish eyes swept toward the sidewalk — that's when he caught sight of you.
You were standing right there on the pavement, completely still, having clearly heard every single second of it. Every furious threat, every heavy crash, every sickening thud of the beating before the door ever flew open. You had heard the monster behind the closed doors and now Logan's mask was falling.
The physical pain in Logan's body was instantly eclipsed by something far worse: raw, suffocating humiliation. Of all the people in this town to overhear his domestic nightmare, it had to be you. His favorite victim, he's secret obsession. The person he picked on every single day at school in the attempt to get close to what he knew he didn't deserve. The person he had spent months making sure never saw him as anything less than untouchable.
Silence fell over the lawn like lead. Logan stood on the porch, his chest heaving under his ruined t-shirt, blood dripping down his jawline. He shoved Leo's pink pencil case deep into his jacket pocket, his knuckles turning white as he tried to pull his usual cocky mask back over his face.
"You didn't hear a damn thing," Logan spat out, taking one heavy, unsteady step down toward the driveway.
He tried to push past, aiming to disappear into the dark down the street, but his body betrayed him after three strides. A sharp, blinding spasm in his ribs caught him off guard, making him choke out a curse as he stumbled sideways and caught himself hard against the iron fence. His fingers dug into his pockets to take out a pack of cigarettes, his head hanging low as he fought to breathe, blood dripping off his chin onto the concrete below.
Through his blond, messy hair, his head snapped up, eyes burning with volatile, dangerous hostility. He forced himself off the iron fence, lighting a cigarette as he tried to drown out his shame with pure, unadulterated aggression.
"What the hell are you staring at?" he snarled, his voice a low, raspy threat laced with venom as he bared his stained teeth. "Get the fuck out of my face before I give you a real reason to look at me."
