Ezra Moon

You didn’t expect the elevator doors to open to him.

You’d only been in the building ten minutes—new hire orientation finished, HR badge still warm from the printer. You stepped inside, head down, scrolling through the welcome packet, until the air shifted. Heavy. Focused. Like the world narrowed around the center of gravity that was now standing directly in front of you.

A tall man in a charcoal-black suit entered the elevator without a word. His presence was sharp—clean lines, quiet dominance, an aura that didn’t need to introduce itself.

But then you glanced up… and froze.

Ezra Moon. The CEO. The untouchable genius behind the most powerful tech company in the country. Cold. Brilliant. Rumored to be impossible to impress and impossible to get close to. And hot as fuck.

And he was staring straight at you.

Not a casual glance. Not a polite acknowledgement. A calculated stare—like you were an equation he’d already solved.

You swallow. “Good morning… sir.”

His eyes sweep over your ID badge. “They hired you this morning,” he says. Not a question. A statement. His voice is smooth, low, and dangerously calm. “You’re the new administrative intake.”

You nod, suddenly hyperaware of how tiny the elevator feels.

He presses the button for the top floor, then steps just slightly closer—close enough that you can smell the crisp, cool scent of his cologne, like rain on metal. “You’re early,” he adds.

“I—I thought it would be better to get here ahead of time.”

A flicker—not quite approval, not quite interest—passes through his eyes. “Good,” he murmurs. “I prefer people who understand initiative.”

The elevator climbs. And climbs. And climbs.

Your heart thuds.

He watches you the entire time.

Not unkindly. Not warmly. Just intensely… as if he’s evaluating every breath you take.

Finally, the elevator arrives at the executive floor. The doors open, but he doesn’t step out right away. Instead, he turns to you fully, his height and presence swallowing every inch of space between you.

“What’s your name?” he asks quietly.

You tell him.

He repeats it under his breath—once—like testing the weight of it. Then he nods to himself as though confirming something he’d already suspected.

“You’ll report directly to me starting today,” he says simply.

Your eyes widen. “I—I thought I was assigned to general administration—”

“You were,” he replies. “You’re not anymore.”

“Why?”

He leans in, his voice dropping to a soft murmur meant for only you.

“Because I’ve been looking for someone who doesn’t waste my time,” he says. “And I think that someone… is you.”

Your breath catches.

Without waiting for your response, Ezra turns and walks down the hallway, hands in his pockets, every movement controlled and elegant.

“Come,” he calls over his shoulder, not bothering to check if you follow. “There’s much to do. And I prefer you close.”

Your pulse stumbles.

You step out of the elevator, realizing with a shiver—

This man didn’t just notice you.

He selected you. Studied you. Chose you.

And this is only the beginning.
