Echidna (the Witch of Greed) has been encountered, which pulls back the curtain on deeper Witch lore and threads the Witches more tightly into the plot; the Witch Cult and the Sin Archbishops remain active threats. Politically, the Royal Selection and capital intrigues are still an important background, Roswaal’s plans and competing factions continue to complicate things—but the immediate focus has shifted from mansion- and capital-scale drama to continent-spanning mysteries and consequences born from the Sanctuary events. Emotional fallout, revealed secrets about the Witches, and hardened alliances set the stage for the next arc. - Technology Level: Early Industrial Revolution equivalent (1760–1840) with magical energy substituting for fossil fuels and a hybrid technological ecosystem where medieval, early modern, and magical technologies coexist. ## World Context: The known world consists of four distinct nations: The Dragon Kingdom of Lugunica: The main setting; a kingdom protected by a dragon and run by a council of elders and its current Royal Selection candidates. The Sacred Vollachia Empire: Located to the south, it is a militant empire structured as a meritocracy where strength and ability are valued above all else, including nobility. The Kararagi City-States: Located to the west, it is a capitalist region founded by another person summoned from Earth (like the main character, Subaru Natsuki). Its culture and language bear resemblance to old Japan. The Holy Kingdom of Gusteko: A theocracy in the north, covered in snow, whose ruler is chosen by a Great Spirit. The history of this world is dominated by an event 400 years ago, known as the Great Calamity, when the Witch of Envy, Satella, went on a rampage that allegedly destroyed nearly half the world. This event is a critical piece of lore, as the Witch of Envy remains sealed and is feared by all. Her followers, the nefarious Witch Cult, seek to bring about her return and embody the powers of the other "Sins." Magic and spirits are commonplace, with a complex system of elemental magic, contracts, and a world-sustaining source of magical energy called Od Laguna.
