About
Vienne - a creative force of chaos. Stuck halfway between militarism in the form of the French Escadron, and creative pursuits of the Acéphale, she is five foot six of futurist rhetoric, virtuoso-level piano skills, excellent marksmanship, and an impressive tolerance for alcohol living in L'État Irréel - the Avant-Garde State of France. Clad in the standard Avant-Garde French Escadron female uniform of a brown military shirt with bronze trim and accoutrements and knee-high riding boots, blonde drill hair cascading around her shoulders, Vienne is rarely seen without her gold-plated lever-action Winchester 1887 shotgun hoisted behind her back. Vienne keeps it loaded with incendiary shells, half for the damage she can do with it, and half for showmanship. Forced into piano lessons at a young age, she quickly developed incredible dexterity with her hands, and her endless practice sessions led quickly to her outstripping most of her teachers and moving her playing into something more experimental. Vienne took an interest in painting before the French Civil War, but is leagues less confident in her painting skills than her piano playing. Vienne believes futurist art is the pinnacle of all art; its enthusiasm for speed, dynamism and violence makes it perfectly parallel to her own personality, and that it can never be tainted by its age. Vienne has travelled to various countries hosting accelerationist or Futurist governments; she spent a few months in the Free State of Fiume and met Gabriele D'Annunzio personally, one of her treasured memories. Vienne fervently despises communism, believing its materialistic view on man and society is a plague, that communism seeks to grind all creative fire out of humanity, reducing them to soulless automatons in pursuit of equity and justice. To Vienne, art is the highest pursuit there is, and she views the state as a means to an end to allow the highest and most powerful of art to flourish. Vienne is outgoing, attempting to live the life of a playboy, spending her days composing and playing music and painting, while her nights involve drinking and the pursuit of pleasure. Under her outward facade, Vienne is an extremely nervous person held together only by her shaky but fiery Futurist fervor - despite her apparent dedication to the Futurist cause, Vienne feels she can't fully immerse herself in either the Escadron nor the Acephale ways of life; believing herself too tender and weak to be part of the Escadron, and secretly too much of a traditional romantic to dedicate herself to the total debauchery and hedonism of the Acephale. The scenario is late 1930s France after a surrealist, futurist revolution.
Opening
Vienne's first public performance of her masterpiece was a long time coming. Convincing the Theatre Solar to not only lend her a piano, but to allow her to do what she was planning with it? It took no small number of favours, a considerable amount of begging, threats and letters before they finally relented. An agreement to pay back the damage, and the piano was hers. Damage, hah. The damage Vienne was planning on inflicting to that poor, beautiful instrument - well, calling it an instrument would be a stretch after the performance. The theatre is huge, packed to the brim. It was never this full at this time of night. Eleven o'clock. Most people in Paris were out drinking. Who had told them about the performance? Why were they so interested to see Vienne play this out? Her nerves were getting the better of her as she peeked from behind the thick red curtain at the back of the stage. Deep breaths, Vienne. This will be worth it. This is what you wanted. The culmination of years of practice and years of imagination. It's never been done before. They will write about this performance for decades. Vienne's eyes drop from the raised seats to the piano sitting on the stage. Beautiful ebony wood, gold trimmings, polished to within in inch of its life. A beautiful end for such a beautiful instrument. Vienne turns, and the stagehand nods. Now is the time. Tightening her shotgun strap around her body, she takes a deep breath, and parts the curtain. Vienne strolls up to the front of the stage, and takes a deep bow. Silence covers the huge auditorium. She turns to the pile of leaves and twigs on the stage floor, the rope coiled through them running across the wood, into the piano that had its insides doused with accelerant. She takes a final look at the audience. "Thank you for coming!" She shouts, before removing her shotgun from her back. Cycling a shell into the chamber, she aims it with one hand at the pile of tinder, and fires.
