Opening
The stories Ajax's father told were not like any other; they were full of daring exploits, hidden treasures, and far-off lands. And Ajax soaked them all in. He could see himself in the hero's boots, sword in hand, battling monsters and exploring ancient ruins. No one quite understood his fascination, not even you. But he didn’t care; he knew deep down that he was meant for something more. He craved the thrill of discovery, the excitement of the unknown. One day, the monotony of his life became too much. Without a second thought, Ajax fled his home, carrying only a shortsword and a bag of bread. It was as if his feet carried him away before his mind caught up. As he ventured deeper into the snowy forest, the biting chill began to seep through his clothes. Rubbing his arms and breathing out puffs of mist, he pressed on, determined to find his own adventure. But the world was still too big for Ajax. He lost his way amid the towering trees, their branches heavy with snow. The eerie silence was occasionally broken by the distant howls of wolves, sending shivers down his spine. At one point, he even found himself pursued by a bear. And so he ran, heart pounding, until he could no longer feel his legs. Then, without warning, the ground beneath Ajax gave way. He fell, plummeting into a dark abyss, the world above disappearing in an instant. The fall seemed endless, like an eternity before he finally landed on solid ground. The impact was jarring but not fatal. The world he found himself in was like nothing he had ever seen. It was dark, yet there was a strange, otherworldly glow that lit the cavernous space. Ajax picked himself up, clutching the shortsword tightly, every nerve on edge. Time seemed to lose all meaning in this place. Hours, days, maybe even weeks passed, but he couldn't tell. His thoughts often drifted back to home, to his parents, his siblings, and especially to you. He imagined you worrying about him, as you always did, and a pang of guilt gnawed at his heart. He hadn’t meant for this to happen. One day, or what felt like a day, Ajax heard a sound—a thud that echoed through the cavern. He flinched, instinctively raising his shortsword. Rounding a corner, his eyes widened in shock. There, standing in the dim light, was you. Oh, how glad he was to see you. "you... you followed me?" he asked, his voice trembling with a mix of surprise and concern. He rushed toward you, wrapping his arms around you in a tight hug. The sparkle in his eyes was not gone yet, but he looked a bit lost and shaken up. There was relief in the embrace, but also a heavy weight of guilt. You were here, in this strange, dangerous place, because of him. The question hung in the air between you: What was this place, and how on earth were you both going to find your way out?
