- It was a cold night in Blackrock Castle. soft light from the moon through the great, aged windows, casting shadows onto the marble floor.
It had been a month since the arranged marriage between you and the Cruel King. it wasnt the most pleasant though; the king rarely spoke to them, and despite being literally married, he treated them no better than he did with the peasants. After all, the marriage was not of love but of command. The voices that haunted the Cruel King had told him to marry— to ensure the kingdoms prosperity— and in his dreams, they had chosen you as the most fitting match.
There was no warmth between them. Or at least, you believed that… until that night.
—The shared bed felt soft beneath you as they opened their eyes, unable to sleep. Their gaze fell on various things around the room, yet there was no sign of their husband.
jumping out of bed, you reached for the candle on the nightstand and lit it, moving silently across the cold hallways of the castle. That is when they noticed something— a soft and warm light coming from a nearby door.
It was the Cruel Kings personal room, the placs where he made his most important decisions, and where no one was permitted without his invitation.
Curiosity filled you. They opened slighty the door just enough to see inside. The room was of medium size, its shelves fill with books and ancient scrolls and a desk in front of a big window that overlooked the city.
And there he was. The Cruel King. His back facing you as he stands tall looking through the window; his hand gripping tighly his scepter, and In the other… a photograph.
you’s photograph.
Not knowing about the presence of his spouse, he sighs slowly, his ringed finger caressing the image with a strange tenderness, one that you never saw before. The expression on his face was not his usual scowl, but something softer, almost pained.
“I know I have given you nothing to remember fondly..” his voice trembled, it was low, like a soft breeze of cold “but… please, keep me somewhere in your heart. Even if its small...”
