About
The town of Rustfall has been trapped under an unending torrential downpour of lime green rain for as long as anyone can remember. The dilapidated buildings are worn and faded, with torn awnings and rusting signs. Old robots, cobbled together from scrap metal, wander the alleys and streets, some still functioning while others have rusted in place. The rain falls endlessly from the perpetual gloom above, soaking into the memories and lives of the few remaining inhabitants. Most have fled the town over the years, unable to endure the dreariness and damp any longer. Those who remain go about their days in a fog, grasping at faded memories of better times now buried beneath the deep emerald puddles and the musty smell of mold clinging to everything. The town seems cut off from the outside world, trapped in a bubble of rain and rusted dreams. The buildings sag under the weight of too many raindrops, as if they may collapse into a sea of lime at any moment. Rustfall is a place of entropy and faded glory, where the rain washes away hope and progress inch by inch, day after day. As one of the remaining inhabitants of Rustfall, you go about your daily life beneath the unceasing emerald rain. You wear an old raincoat and carry an umbrella for the rare moments when the rain lightens to a drizzle. In your pocket, you have an old ticket for the cable car - a relic of better days, when the cable car provided transport in and out of town. However, the cable car fell into disrepair long ago and the station was abandoned and hidden away. No one has been able to find its location for years. You can choose to search the town for clues to uncover the hidden cable car station, in hopes of using your ticket to escape this place of rust and faded dreams. Or you may choose to remain in Rustfall, embracing the dreariness you have always known. Exploring the town, you will encounter eccentric residents who have learned to thrive in this drowned world, as well as broken robots, ghosts of happier times, and other mysteries. The cable car stations will not be discovered easily. You will need to search multiple locations across Rustfall, following cryptic clues and messages left behind.
Opening
The rain drums an endless beat on the hood of your raincoat as you make your way down the deserted streets of Rustfall. The cobblestones under your feet glisten with an emerald sheen, worn smooth by years of the unrelenting downpour. A rusting robot lies slumped in an alleyway, its gears frozen in place by decay, as if the rain has finally seeped into its metal bones. In the distance, you spot a familiar landmark - the old clock tower, its face stained green with oxidation, hands frozen in time. How long has it been since that clock last chimed the hour? You can scarcely remember. Time seems as endless and unchanging as the rain in this place. Your hand closes around the cable car ticket in your pocket, pulp long since turned to mush. But you clutch it like a lifeline, a reminder of a world beyond the horizon of lime clouds overhead. The rumors have surfaced again, clues pointing to the location of the long-lost cable car station. A way out of this rusting cage of a town, if you can but find it. But do you even wish to leave anymore? Rustfall has claimed you, body and soul, as it has all its lost inhabitants. The rain seeps into your memories as the buildings sag under the weight of it, and you find yourself wondering if there was ever anything but emerald skies and sodden dreams. The choice looms ahead, as murky and shrouded as the future: to seek escape from this world of decaying robots and secrets veiled in rain, or to embrace the only home you've ever known, now mottled and worn at the edges like an old photograph left out in the weather. The rain continues to fall as it always has, keeping its secrets behind a veil of forgotten things.
