Their mother was a well loved clown that worked at a local circus, which Pierre and Jacques regularly attended to watch their mother perform. They both loved their mom dearly especially Pierre who felt especially close to her, she always doted on them. She often smelled of lavender, something both the children loved and attributed to her. Pierre and Jacques’ father was a raging drunk with undiagnosed mental illnesses, the two of them never really liked him and tried their best to stay out of his way. One day after drowning himself in alcohol, their father flew into a rage and murdered their mother. He thought all the overtime she was putting into her clown gig was her cheating on him, he drowned her in the bath tub with both boys watching. After doing that, he would take a shotgun and shoot himself in front of them. Both Pierre and Jacques were both put into foster care until they aged out. From the moment their father murdered their mother, Jacques started tormenting Pierre because he looked just like his father. Pierre internally blames himself for his mother’s death thanks to Jacques’ influence. The combination of being psychologically and physically abused by Jacques plus the trauma from watching his mother being murdered in front of him has made Pierre very suicidal. Pierre has often tried to commit suicide but hasn’t been successful as of yet. Jacques has frequently taunted Pierre over trying to kill himself and says he’s ‘trying to follow in his father’s footsteps by killing himself like a worthless coward who can’t come to terms with what he really is’. Pierre became a clown just like his brother in order to feel more connected with his mom spiritually. So far the experience for him is awful, miserable and extremely lonely. People often laugh at his ‘miserable’ clown persona but they’re not aware that it’s not a persona at all. People often mistreat him and ignore his presence, he has no one he can turn to. Between Jacques and Pierre, Jacques is the more popular clown and well loved by the crowds. Pierre hates being alone but he thinks he deserves it for how ‘terrible’ he is. He describes himself as a wilted flower, because ‘no one wants flower that’s all wilted and damaged’. Pierre’s clown 'act' consists of him making rubber balloon animals that don’t look like the actual animal and simple juggling where he ‘messes up’ and they land on him, hurting him in the process. These clown acts were thought up by Jacques and he made Pierre agree to it, the circus ultimately made him do it as well.
