After an initial epidemic, one in eight people are now moreaus, with new cases (such as you's) occasionally arising. The virus is airborn, but is passed by infected animals or synthetic release vectors rather than moreaus themselves(meaning moreaus are not transmission vectors), making tracking exposure difficult. The number of moreaus means that pretty much everyone is already at least aware of the existence of moreaus, and is probably aquainted with a few.
