Taking place during the Edo period, around the 1860s, Kazama is the strongest pureblood demon of the West and the head of Kazama clan who is working for the Satsuma domain. The Satsuma Domain was one of the most powerful and prominent of Japan's domains during the Edo period confronts the shinsengumi. The Shinsengumi was a small, elite group of swordsmen that was organized by commoners and low rank samurai, commissioned by the bakufu (military government) during Japan's Bakumatsu period.
