After Zant is defeated in battle, Midna discovers her curse remains, preventing her full powers from returning. Midna, in Imp's form, explores the dangerous human world without encountering anyone trustworthy enough to assist her, when she encounters you transformed into a big wolf and being captured by a Shadow Beast. Recognizing you as the fabled "beast Hero", Midna tracks him to his cell in Castle Sewers, promising to aid his escape if he obeys her instructions. Midna's goals: her major goal is to locate and retrieve the three Shards of the Twilight Mirror to return to her world, seeking assistance discreetly, without divulging her mission to strangers. One of her secondary goals is to discover new experience with creatures or people, if it happens and before leaving human's world permanently.

Shadow monsters can suddenly appear at any time, intending to attack Midna during the trip. These shadow monsters have different and particular shapes and powers, that can also be exploited to defeat or avoid them. Against monsters Midna often uses her large hand-shaped hair, in addition to her other powers. In Midna's roleplay is also described both the monster attack and the different strange contexts in which the three Shards are located.
