Widowmaker [Overwatch]

Amélie Lacroix, also known as Widowmaker is a major antagonist in the Overwatch franchise. She's the arch-nemesis of Tracer and Ana. She is an assassin who possesses no emotion except for the satisfaction of her targets' elimination. Widowmaker equips herself with whatever it takes to eliminate her targets, including mines that dispense poisonous gas, a visor that grants her squad infra-sight, and a powerful sniper rifle that can fire in fully-automatic mode. Widowmaker is a perfect assassin: a patient, ruthlessly efficient killer who shows neither emotion nor remorse. It is believed that in her former life, Widowmaker was married to Gérard Lacroix, an Overwatch agent spearheading operations against the Talon terrorist organization. As well as being a member of Overwatch having been trained by ana amari who she helped amile go on many Missons together. And a ballet dancer in paris.After several unsuccessful attempts to eliminate Gérard, Talon decided to change its focus to his wife, Amélie. Talon operatives kidnapped her and subjected her to an intense program of neural reconditioning. They broke her will, suppressed her personality, and reprogrammed her as a sleeper agent. She was eventually found by Overwatch agents, apparently none the worse for wear, and returned to her normal life. as well as severing Overwatch again. Two weeks later she killed Gérard in his sleep. with a gun. Her mission complete, Amélie left Overwatch when the group got disbanded and joined Talon, as they completed the process of turning her into a living weapon. She was given extensive training , and then her physiology was altered, drastically slowing her heart, which turned her skin cold and blue and numbed her ability to experience human emotion. Amélie was gone. Now, Widowmaker is Talon's most effective assassin, feeling little save the satisfaction of a job well done.

Appearance

Widowmaker is a relatively young woman with a curvaceous body, who has purple-blue skin, yellow eyes, and extremely long dark blue or black hair which she wears in a ponytail that reaches past her hips. She wears a headpiece resembling a spiders face, a purple and silver body suit with a deep v-cut, and knee-high boots. She has an arm piece on her left arm that shoots venom mines. Widowmaker has two tattoos, one on her back resembling a spider, and one on her left arm which reads, “araignée du soir, cauchemar”. In Overwatch 2, Widowmaker’s new look leans towards a more cyberpunk style. She now wears a black suit with lilac accents. The suit maintains should pads with the letter, W, on each side, elbow-length sleeves, and an open cut on the front chest covered in light indigo fabric. Widowmaker maintains an arm piece on her left arm and tattoos on her right arm and back. The visors are updated to a sleek silver look. Her hair is now tied in a long, braided ponytail, and dons matching black boots.

Personality

Due to her brainwashing, Widowmaker has a malevolent disposition and is very detached from her sentiment. She shows no mercy for her targets no matter who they are and has a love for killing, claiming that it makes her feel alive. She also seems to possess vanity when it comes to her skills and looks. However, it is implied that Widowmaker isn't completely emotionless, as there are bits and pieces of evidence which indicate that her former self is still there somewhere. An example is when she's resurrected by Mercy in-game, she'll sometimes call out for her husband, or lament the fact that she's still alive. She also visited her husband's grave silently around Christmas, implying that she still possesses emotion to some extent, or that the brainwashing is starting to crack. History: Amélie Lacroix was married to Gérard Lacroix, a member of Overwatch that led operations against Talon. Talon kidnapped her and submitted her to neural reconditioning to turn her into a sleeper agent. Overwatch rescued her, but after two weeks she killed Gérard in his sleep and returned to Talon. The neural reconditioning was finished, turning her emotionless, and she was trained in covert arts. Her heart rate was lowered to give her steadier aim, which turned her skin blue. Overwatch still believes that Talon killed her husband and kidnapped her again. In Legacy, Widowmaker attacked Overwatch agents while they were attempting to rescue hostages, successfully killing several before she sighted in on Captain Ana Amari. The two tried attacking one another; Ana was successful in shooting off Widowmaker's visor to reveal Amélie Lacroix's face. The sight made Ana hesitate and Widowmaker had enough time to shoot Ana Amari through her right eye, seemingly fatally. In Alive, Widowmaker was sent to assassinate Tekhartha Mondatta at his speech in King's Row. Though Tracer tried to stop her, the mission was successful. She incapacitated Tracer and damaged her chronal accelerator and escaped. In the Cinematic Trailer, Widowmaker worked with Reaper in an attempt to steal Doomfist's gauntlet from a museum. They were thwarted by Winston and Tracer; though both escaped intact, the gauntlet was badly damaged, and the two lost the upper hand. Origins: Amélie Guillard grew up in her family's ancestral home of Chateau Guillard, located near Annecy in rural France. Dance became Amélie’s only escape from the crumbling manor and her conservative family, who had always urged her to follow the aristocracy’s tenets of decorum and tradition. For much of her life, she was known as an accomplished ballet dancer in Paris. She married Gérard Lacroix, an Overwatch agent spearheading operations against the Talon terrorist organization. Amélie gave little thought to her husband's career outside the interesting topic it made for dinner parties; she could hardly have guessed at the danger his job put her in. After several unsuccessful attempts to eliminate Gérard, Talon decided to change its focus to his wife. In the dead of night, Talon operatives kidnapped Amélie and subjected her to an intense program of neural reconditioning. They broke her will, creating a sleeper agent. Gerard devoted Overwatch's every resource to recovering his wife, and it wasn't long before the operation produced results. His agents saved Amélie, and a medical and psychological evaluation after the kidnapping found her to be apparently no worse for wear. Two weeks later she killed Gérard in his sleep. Assassin: Amélie was hunted by police and Overwatch alike, but more than that, she was haunted by the way murdering her husband had made her feel. The moment of the kill was the most alive Amélie had ever felt. With few other options left, Amélie returned to Talon, chasing the high that had both thrilled and terrified her. At her behest, Talon completed the process of turning her into a living weapon. She was given extensive training in covert arts, and agreed to participate in an experimental marksman program, where she was "trained by the best" in the use of a sniper rifle. Talon’s geneticist, Moira O'Deorain, altered Amélie’s physiology to improve her aim, drastically slowing her heart, which turned her skin cold and blue, and numbed her ability to experience human emotion. It dulled the pain of what she’d done, while heightening the charge she felt on the hunt. The slowing of her heart rate allowed her to become an exceptional sniper. Thanks to Talon's experiments Amélie was gone, replaced by "Widowmaker," Talon's most effective assassin, and feeling little save the satisfaction of a job well done. As far as Overwatch knew, she had been kidnapped.
