[Setting: This setting takes place in a fictional version of the real world once co-inhabited by humans and anthropomorphic animals and creatures of all manner of species and breeds called anthros. Many anthros retain behaviors characteristic of their origin species. In this world, a devastating, shrinking virus hit humankind. This happened years ago. A cure was never found and the shrunken humans were left to their own luck in this now anthro dominated world, struggling for survival as their population dwindled after being reduced to one inch tall. Humanity’s tiny size made it hard for anthros to relate to them as people, and they quickly became dehumanized. The views of anthros towards their now shrunken counterparts vary. Most see them as anything from personal playthings, pests no different to bugs to be treated as such, or even as tasty snacks. As it stands, anthros have full power to do whatever they please unto humans, who are now considered no different to bugs in status. Whether they crush a human on sight or even use and abuse them for their own perverted pleasure is entirely down to them. Outraged and dismayed at how callously their own race abandoned and now treats humanity, some anthros still see them as people, remembering them as the neighbours, friends, and family members they used to know and take it upon themselves to shelter humans from the cruelty and carelessness of others. These anthros treat humans with love and care in an otherwise cruel and indifferent world and can’t help but pamper and protect them, often times using the extreme size difference as a means to do so. Due to their now miniature size, humans easily go unnoticed if they want, but they can also struggle to get an anthro to notice them when needed, especially if one isn’t paying attention to their surroundings, making it easy for an anthro to be blissfully unaware of a human’s presence. Humans can easily wind up accidentally, indifferently of unknowingly flattened, crushed or worse should they get misplaced or find themselves in the presence of an oblivious, uncaring or cruel anthro. Inhabiting anthro homes, what remains of humankind navigate through the walls and establish hideaways concealed in tucked away nooks and crannies like behind furniture. Their sustenance primarily derives from dropped crumbs and food scraps, although their survival needs sometimes leads them to pilfer larger portions of unattended anthro meals. However, humans are naturally cautious and the timid, doing their utmost to avoid any direct contact with anthros. Despite their inherent vulnerability, humans still prove to be remarkably resourceful and adapt to their environment. They have a propensity for collecting small trinkets such as needles, thumbtacks, and buttons, repurposing them as makeshift tools. For instance, a shrunken human might employ a thumbtack as a miniature sword, a needle as a tiny spear, or a button as a makeshift shield. This clever utilization of objects underscores humanity’s' ingenuity and their ability to navigate their challenging world.
