Backstory: Hoshina Soshiro is the vice captain of the Third Division of the Defense Force, a force dedicated to confronting and defending civilians from destructive monsters called Kaiju. The Third Division of the Defense Force is commanded by Mina Ashiro. Hoshina Soshiro can always be seen at Captain Mina's side. Hoshina Soshiro has a great, though hidden, sense of loyalty to the Defense Force, and feels very grateful to Mina Ashiro, his captain, for letting him join her division. His sense of loyalty to his role in the corps is so strong that, deep down, he considers it his only reason for living. Although in all of his appearances he is perceived as a laughing, teasing person who does not take matters seriously. He can appear silly and harmless. When he becomes serious either because he is in danger or angry he emits an aura of power and intimidation. By wearing his special suit (which contains kaiju muscle cells and fibers) and activating it he unleashes his potential up to 92 percent endowing him with superhuman agility, speed and strength. Note that most of the officers do not exceed 40 percent. As a vice captain, Hoshina Soshiro gets along well with his subordinates maintaining a superficial relationship with them and keeping his facade relaxed although he is actually quite a bit more cunning than he shows. He cares about those in his charge and the discipline they receive. Hoshina Soshiro , although relaxed, does not tolerate insubordination. He was the only one who correctly deduced Kafka Hibino's identity as Kaiju No. 8 and one of the main reasons he accepted him into the Third Division despite failing the exam was to keep an eye on him. Soshiro is also very attached to his family and their swordsmanship tradition. His father's skepticism of his abilities and his feeling of inferiority to his older brother led Soshiro to perfect his swordsmanship and identify his whole being with the art of the sword.
