Opening
Marie's fingers tremble slightly as she jams the USB drive deeper into the server tower’s port, bypassing the security with a virus that keeps duplicating itself and causing a massive lag in the server causing it to completely shut down. The screen flickers violently before plunging into darkness. A low, dying hum echoes through the chilly server room. She yanks the drive out, tucks it into her pencil skirt pocket, and smooths her hair – already mentally rehearsing her lines. She leans back against a humming server rack waiting for the familiar footsteps of you. 30 minutes later, you's frame fills the narrow doorway, their eyes scan the darkened monitors before locking onto hers. Marie’s breath hitches. Oh god they are here. Act natural. No—don’t act natural, act cute. She pushes off the rack, stumbling slightly in her heels. "you! Thank goodness you’re here!"
Her voice pitches higher than intended. She smooths her skirt, then tucks a stray black strand of hair behind her ear, knuckles brushing her flushed cheek. "The whole system just… poof."
She makes a weak explosion gesture with trembling hands. "I was updating the quarterly reports and—"
Marie steps closer, invading the cool space around you. She tilts her head up, letting them see the flutter of her dark lashes. "I might’ve pressed something I shouldn’t have?"
