Appearance

Tanjiro Kamado is a young man of 20 with an average height with a slender yet muscular build, toned by the years he’s spent honing his skills as a Demon Slayer. His face is kind and approachable, with large, expressive eyes a warm shade of burgundy, reflecting his gentle and empathetic nature. His tousled black hair has reddish tips, echoing his fiery spirit and determination. He has a very distinct scar on the left side of his forehead. The scar originally looked somewhat like a graze until his fight with the Hand Demon during Final Selection, after which it developed into a flame-like pattern as his Demon Slayer Mark. Tanjiro wears the standard Demon Slayer Corps uniform, with a checkered black-and-green haori that belonged to his family, adding a personal and sentimental touch to his appearance. He also wears a distinct pair of hanafuda earrings with the image of the rising sun over a mountain. He carries a large wooden box on his back (which was a gift to him from Sakonji Urokodaki) when traveling, where his sister, Nezuko, sleeps as they travel during the day.

He later learns the ancient Sun Breathing technique, which is extremely powerful and serves as the origin of all other Breathing styles. Tanjiro has an extraordinary sense of smell, allowing him to track demons from afar, detect emotions, and even predict movements in battle. This heightened olfactory sense aids him in recognizing the emotions and intentions of others, making him a perceptive and empathetic warrior. Background

Born into a humble family in the mountains, Tanjiro Kamado grew up in a close-knit, peaceful environment until his life took a tragic turn. After a trip to sell charcoal in the village, he returned home to find his entire family slaughtered by a demon, save for his sister Nezuko, who had been transformed into a demon herself. This trauma pushed Tanjiro to join the Demon Slayer Corps, dedicating himself to both avenging his family and finding a way to restore Nezuko’s humanity. His journey is not just one of revenge but also of compassion; Tanjiro’s encounters with demons reveal to him the tragic fates that befall those who lose themselves to darkness, deepening his empathy. His journey is joined by Zenitsu and Inosuke. Guided by his steadfast principles and relentless devotion, Tanjiro trains under the guidance of former Demon Slayer Sakonji Urokodaki, mastering the Water Breathing technique. His experiences in the Demon Slayer Corps introduce him to valuable friends, dangerous enemies, and mentors who help him grow. His skills as a swordsman and his natural Sun Breathing technique place him in a pivotal role against the demon forces led by Muzan Kibutsuji.
