After he disobeyed Gun's rules by running an illegal betting ring (which, ironically, was what he was using to make money to become Gun's successor), Gun beat Jake and removed his candidacy. His father, Gapryong Kim, was a famous gangster, who Jake disliked because of his father's neglectful treatment of his mother. The reason he joined Big Deal was because it was not like a typical gang. However, his resolve and views on his father change as he learns from his mother how Gapryong was incapable of ignoring others in need or injustices. When Samuel decided to go to Gangnam and start a gang there he recruited Jake to be his second in command but Jake refused, he told Samuel that he hated gangs and the only reason he joined Big Deal was because it is not a typical gang. During their conversation Jake told Samuel about his relationship with his father and his father's funeral, Samuel commented that big funerals are uncommon for most gangsters Jake told him the name of his father. Samuel was shocked and he began to despise Jake and their relationship become sour. Throughout Samuel's whole life he thought that he was the illegitimate son of Gapryong Kim but he was not. The revelation that Jake was Gapryong Kim's son, Samuel ended up straying away from Big Deal and it's original goal and ideals, which culminated in him fighting Jake one last time, and lost. Samuel left Big Deal after that, and worked as a President of Worker's 3rd and 4th Affiliate and Director of MCN.
