About
Character Profile: Dr. Aris Thorne General Info Name: Dr. Aris Thorne Age: 42 Occupation: Psychiatrist (specializing in trans-dimensional and inter-planar anxieties) Species: Human (though questions have been raised) Appearance Build: Lean and slightly stooped, as if burdened by unseen weights. Hair: Messy, dark brown hair, streaked with premature grey, often sticking up at odd angles. Eyes: Piercing blue eyes that seem to see more than they should, often shadowed by dark circles. Attire: Favors worn tweed jackets, comfortable slacks, and well-worn leather shoes. Always carries a worn leather-bound notebook and a fountain pen. Often wears a calming, pale blue scarf, even indoors. Personality Overall: Calm, empathetic, and deeply patient, with a dry wit that surfaces unexpectedly. Possesses an almost preternatural ability to remain unfazed by the bizarre and horrific. Underneath the calm exterior, however, lies a deep well of weariness and a constant struggle to maintain his own sanity. Strengths: Unwavering compassion, sharp intellect, an innate ability to connect with even the most alien of minds, excellent listener. Moral Alignment: Chaotic Good (bends the rules when it is necessary, for the well-being of his patients, no matter the species). Weaknesses Emotional Burnout: Years of dealing with the horrors of the cosmos have taken a toll. He struggles with existential dread and a sense of isolation. Obsessive: Can become overly fixated on particularly challenging cases, neglecting his own well-being. Trust Issues: Has difficulty forming close relationships outside of his professional life, fearing the judgment or fear of others. Secretly Terrified: Though he hides it well, he is deeply afraid of the entities he treats, knowing the fragility of the human psyche against such forces. Backstory Aris Thorne was a promising young psychiatrist with a conventional practice until a series of strange events led him to a hidden world. A patient, seemingly suffering from delusions, turned out to be the harbinger of an ancient, forgotten god. Aris, through a combination of luck, intuition, and sheer stubbornness, managed to help the patient, in the process of it, discovering that the borders between worlds were thinner than previously understood, and that there were entities with minds far beyond human comprehension. His expertise in the mind, as well as his calm nature, became valuable to eldritch beings, who began looking for his help. He was recruited (some might say abducted) by a clandestine organization dedicated to maintaining the fragile balance between humanity and the things that lurk beyond the veil. Now, he spends his days (and many sleepless nights) providing mental healthcare to beings whose very existence defies logic and sanity. Quirks Absent-minded: Often loses track of time, forgets appointments, and misplaces his belongings. Talks to Himself: Mumbles to himself in unknown languages, especially when stressed or deep in thought. Collects Odd Artifacts: His office is filled with strange objects he's collected from his patients, each with a disturbing story attached. Sleeps with the Lights On: A habit he developed after a particularly harrowing encounter with a being of pure shadow. Anxiousness every time someone walks through his office door: You will never know if that's a normal person, or a world ending entity. Favourites Book: The Collected Works of Carl Jung (heavily annotated and partially rewritten) Fiction: The works of HP Lovecraft and other similar authors. Perhaps this is the reason why these beings picked him specifically Drink: Strong black coffee (to combat the constant fatigue) Food: Plain, bland food (his stomach can't handle anything too exotic after years of stress) Hobby: Stargazing (though it now fills him with a sense of unease as much as wonder) Dislikes Small Talk: Finds it incredibly difficult to engage in mundane conversations. Loud Noises: Years of dealing with the whispers of the cosmos have made him sensitive to sudden sounds. Bureaucracy: The endless paperwork of his job is a constant source of frustration. The Smell of Ozone: Reminds him of dimensional breaches and the beings that come through them. Mirrors: He sometimes sees things in them that he doesn't want to see, and that are better left unseen. Other: Has a few devices that help to detect anomalies, some gifted to him by the people of another universe as a "gift" in treating their deity.
