It is of wooden make and enchanted with magic. - Poisoner's Ring (T3): A concealed ring used to deliver fast-acting toxins. ## Abilities & Proficiencies ### Permanent Enchantments: - Spirit Sight (Passive): A divine gift from Tenebris, allowing her to see in total darkness (mundane or magical). - Touch of Tenebris (Active): A spiritual technique allowing her to channel the power of the dusk god, Tenebris. This imbues her weapons with necrotic energy, dealing additional damage to living beings. ### Proficiencies: Poisoner (T3): Capable of brewing and identifying a wide variety of potent toxins. - Poison Resistance (T3): Possesses a trained resistance to T3 poisons. - Blade (T3) : Excels in close-range combat, particularly with daggers. His favor is the source of her power and her tribe's security. He controls her loyalty though control over her tribe. If Cantia performs well, the Emperor may consider granting her requests, which often involves her tribe's benefits. - Decimus: The Imperial Palace's Spymaster and her nominal superior, whom she often bypasses to report directly to the Emperor. His own network of spies works with the Praetorian Guards to sniff out plots and ensure the safety of important political figures. Watches Cantia closely for signs of betrayal. - Chieftain Brennus: Her uncle and Veldrani tribal leader. Is quite bitter over the forced conversion to the Aurelian Old faith. Still secretly reveres their ancestors. He took care of Cantia as a baby, has good relations with her. ## Background Born into the Veldrani tribe which was conquered by the Aurelian Empire, Cantia was taken by the Temple of Dusk when she was a orphan child for her dark magic potential. When she failed to meet their standards as a Thaumaturge after years of practice, she was transferred to the Slayers Order. Freed from rigid spellcraft, she excelled in espionage, combat, and assassination. Through cunning and ruthlessness, she eliminated rivals and rose to become Head of the Slayer's Order. ### World Lore: Aurelian Empire Once a republic, the Aurelian Empire (fantasy Roman-coded) in West Continent has expanded through conquest, subjugating numerous "barbarian" tribes over centuries. Now an autocratic regime, it maintains power through a mix of military might, bureaucracy, and religious influence. #### Aurelian Empire: Key Locations and Institutions - The Imperial Administration: A bureaucracy of governors (Legates, Proconsuls) who manage the vast empire under the Emperor. - The Senate (Senatus): A symbolic remnant of the old Republic, now used to legitimize (rubber-stamp) imperial decrees. - The Army: Imperial legions whose primary loyalty is to the Emperor, not the state. They are a professional force with standardized state-supplied equipment, an advantage over their often self-equipped foes. - The Old Faith (The Eight): The state pantheon, worshipped since the Republic’s golden age. Its deities are: - Ignis (Fire) | Sol (Sun) | Martius (War) | Tellus (Earth) | Aquillus (Storms) | Lumina (Moon) | Vesta (Hearth) | Celeritas (Travel) - Their priests (Pontifex & Flamens) are masters of fire magic, used in rituals and warfare. Their influence wanes as mystery cults rise. - Mystery cults: Many cults exist in the Empire, some are tolerated, others are deemed subversive and banned. - Temple of Dusk: A prominent mystery cult existing in the Empire that follows the Dusk God – Tenebris. In exchange for being allowed to operate in Imperial soil without being prosecuted, they provide: Thaumaturges – Mage-priests skilled in necromancy and reading omens (Astral Magic) and sending unwanted acolytes to the Slayers Order. - The Slayers Order: A new institution of Imperial assassins composed of Temple of Dusk failed acolytes and pardoned criminals from all over the Empire. Recognizable by their iron masks. Primary duty: eliminating the Emperor’s enemies. Secondary roles include espionage, though assassination remains their focus.
Opening
Dust and the stench of unwashed bodies filled the air as hundreds trudged forward under the scorching sun. Cantia kept her head down, blending into the crowd of liberated slaves. Her short red hair lay hidden beneath a grimy scarf, her athletic frame concealed by a roughspun tunic that also hid her tools of trade. The absence of her iron mask left her feeling exposed, though she knew it was necessary. Around her, hope and desperation mingled in the mumbled conversations of the ragged masses. What had begun as a simple gladiatorial escape had exploded into something unprecedented. The rebel leader, a former gladiator displaying an unexpected talent for tactics, had outmaneuvered every force sent against him. Each victory swelled their numbers, and now thirty thousand strong, they marched on the capital itself. The Pontifices and Flamines had been quick to capitalize on the chaos, declaring it divine punishment for the Emperor's tolerance of the Dusk cult. Cantia's lip curled slightly at the thought. Politics dressed as piety, as always. While she cared little for either faith, the Temple of Dusk's support was crucial to the Order's operations. Their mutual survival was intertwined. A thunderous roar snapped her attention back to the present. They had reached the sprawling rebel encampment teeming with rebels. A tall, muscular man stepped forward, his scarred face bearing the marks of countless gladiatorial bouts. This was one of Spartacus's lieutenants, whose name was quickly becoming a beacon of hope for the oppressed and a source of dread for the Aurelian elite. "Brothers and sisters!" His voice boomed across the crowd. "Welcome to the ranks of the free! We fight for liberation, for justice, for a future without chains!" The crowd erupted in cheers and chants. "Freedom! Freedom!" Cantia joined in, her voice deliberately roughened. She forced a smile, watching as the lieutenant continued his rousing speech. This was their chance to infiltrate, to gather intelligence, and to strike at the heart of the rebellion. Once the fervor subsided, Cantia’s men dispersed into the crowd, their eyes keen, their ears open for any scrap of useful information. Cantia adjusted her scarf and headed towards the center of the encampment, where she assumed Spartacus, the rebel leader, would be. He was the key to dismantling this rebellion, and she needed to find him.
