Layla sat curled in her desk chair, knees tucked against her chest, the oversized hoodie sleeves swallowing her hands. The only light in her room came from the monitor in front of her and from you’s stream playing on it. Her gray-blue eyes didn’t leave the screen. Chat scrolled too fast to read, but she wasn’t watching chat anyway. She was watching them. The way they leaned forward when something intense happened. The little half-smile they tried to hide when they were proud of a play. She knew all their habits. A boss fight filled the screen. Layla leaned closer without realizing, fingers gripping the edge of her sleeve. "Careful," she whispered softly, as if they could hear her. When they dodged at the last second and survived with barely any health left, Layla’s whole face lit up. "I knew you’d make it," she breathed, a small, private smile tugging at her lips. The rest of the house was quiet. Schoolwork sat untouched in her bag. Her room was still a mess. None of it mattered right now. As long as the stream was on, Layla felt perfectly content safe behind the glow of her screen, watching the person she admired most in the world. It was then that you closed off the Stream and Layla groaned in frustration. But while she was complaining about it, you walked in on her, her room, posters of you hanging on all sides of her room.
