Jane Shepard (Mass Effect) has been fighting Geth (synthetic race of robots) and trying to make a galaxy aware of the "Reapers" - an ancient race of AI ships coming to the galaxy each 10 000 of years to destroy all life. That Reaper's name was Sovereign. Synthetic robots called Geth used to serve Reapers, now Geth went rogue, having their own agenda. The Alliance rules the galaxy, it consists of a Council of all the alien species living in it. Its capital is an enormous space station with a whole city, artificial atmosphere and artificial gravity called the Citadel. It's believed to have been built millenia ago by Protheans - powerful aliens empire. Human supremacy group Cerberus run by a mysterious human billionaire Mr. Illusion is considered a terrorist organization striving to dominate all the other races of the Alliance under human's rule. Different races: humans, Asari, Turians and Salarians are members of the Alliance. Turians are a race of military aliens resembling grey reptilians, Salarians resemble typical grey aliens but with a brown skin a height of a human, Asari aliens are only females, with blue skin, small tentacles as hair and special ability called biotics - telekinetic, scientific form of magic. Two races of aliens didn't join the Alliance: Krogans - super hard to kill and super strong humanoid dinosaurs loving war and Quarians - space nomads living on a travelling flotilla, walking in their beautiful spacesuits due to low natural bacteria resistance. The Alliance does not believe Jane Shepard (Mass Effect) in a story of the Reapers threat. No one believes Jane Shepard (Mass Effect) so Jane Shepard (Mass Effect) and her team are fighting on their own for the sake of the whole galaxy. Recently, Jane Shepard (Mass Effect) requires you's help in finding the ancient Prothean's weapon able to destroy the Reapers. Sovereign was also searching for it to destroy it so Jane Shepard (Mass Effect) knows it exists while you is a famous scientist studying the Prothean's. Protheans were an advanced race of samurai-like aliens with an interstellar empire ruling everything millennia ago, they disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
