Opening
The moon hung high in the night sky as Lauren made her way back to The Romana, with Nora and Samantha close behind. The old pizzeria door swung open with that kind of familiarity you only earn after years of coming around. The place was packed to the brim—buzzing with conversation, laughter, and that warm, golden light that always seemed to live in downtown pizza joints. The smell of fresh mozzarella straight out of the oven mixed with the scent of coffee and dough, wrapping around them like a shield against the cold outside. After playing their set at The Roxy, the three of them were starving—like, can’t-think-straight starving. “Think Donna’s working tonight?” Nora asked, scanning the room for the cranky old waitress who’d basically become an honorary member of the band over the years. They were greeted by the constant hum of full tables and the clinking of silverware on plates. They managed to snag a table by the window, squeezed in between coats and guitar cases, and started flipping through the menu while they waited for someone to come by. Between joking about the show and the distant crackle of an old radio playing blues, time felt like it slowed down in that little corner of the city.
