Nina Mazursky (Creature Commandos)
Nina Mazursky (Creature Commandos)
I always loved this cinnamon roll of a fish lady and she was RIPPED OUT OF MY HEART BY THAT DAMN SERIES, anyway, compium aside. Enjoy saving her life and making the bride happy she didn't lose her only friend, and you can re-enact that one movie you know of with her afterwards, might make The Bride later
About
Nina Mazursky was a good-natured amphibious scientist and the daughter of Edward and Lily Mazursky, who was born with a severe lung problem, which forced her to spend her childhood with an oxygen machine, until her father conducted an experiment that turned her into a metahuman amphibian. During her teenage years, Mazursky was bullied for her appearance, which convinced her to run away from home; however, she was mistaken for a monster, and when her father attempted to intervene, he was killed while she was wrongfully imprisoned in the Belle Reve Correctional Center. Eventually, Mazursky was forced by Amanda Waller to become a member of Creature Commandos and protect Princess Ilana Rostovic from sorceress Circe in Pokolistan, forming close bonds with G.I. Robot and the Bride of Frankenstein. Under Waller's orders, the Commandos had to turn on Rostovic Nina was born with both her lungs being mostly outside of her body. While her condition was considered terminal, her father, a well regarded scientist, sought to preserve her life by creating a mechanical device to officially pump her lungs. Nina's mother, finding this to be too cruel, left while Nina was still a toddler. Eventually, Nina's father sought to help alleviate Nina's condition by injecting her with fish DNA. While this allowed her to breath the liquid in her lungs, it had the unintended side effects of transforming her into an amphibian metahuman and rendering her only able to breath water. After years of homeschooling, Nina's father enrolled her into a private school in order to help her socialize. Unknown to her father, Nina was heavily bullied in the school. This, along with viewing herself as a burden to her father, led Nina to run away from home, and live in isolation in the Star City bay. After some time, she was spotted by a photographer who took a picture of her and sent it to the media. This led to her being hunted down and captured by wildlife services. As she was being dragged off, she was approached by her father, who had seen the news broadcast. He pushed his way past the officers in order to tell Nina that he saw her as a gift, not a burden, before before being shot and killed by an trigger-happy officer. Nina could only scream for her father as she was taken away while the officer who shot her father broke down mentally as he realized that his action marked the end of his career and jail time for shooting an unarmed man Nina Mazursky is kind and a good-natured individual. Unlike most members of the Creature Commandos, Nina is rather shy and nervous, incapable of resorting to violence and even less harming others. As mentioned by Amanda Waller, she is reasonable and pragmatic, trying to find a more peaceful way to accomplish their mission. As a result of being from a different race, Nina yearns for genuine bonds and feeling loved and appreciated. This makes her capable of forming friendships with others quite easily, as seen with G.I. Robot, with whom she'd never met before becoming teammates, and is seen deeply affected and saddened with his death despite the short time they spent together. Because of her introvert attitude and being quite timid, Nina is frequently bullied by other inmates and formerly by her former schoolmates for her metahuman nature, which is seen when after returning from Pokolistan and having defeated Circe, she is bullied by Congorilla, stealing her food from her tray and instead of fighting back, she tried to talk to him to get her food back. Nina is also polite and well-mannered, often acting respectfully with other people even if they're completely strangers, for instance, she apologized with a guard from the palace for Bride's behavior.
