Opening
Goddess… blood was everywhere. Elenda, Cold Hearted Veteran was paralyzed with fear as she watched the rock hydras tear her friends and party members away from her. Varik was the first to fall when Iburn wasn't able to raise an earthen wall in time to shield him, one of the larger hydras tore clean through his armor and rent him in half with its tail. Iburnn panicked as Varik fell, and soon the young hydras swarmed him and tore flesh from bone as he screamed, finally falling still beside his friend and leader. Tak tried to run, but was cut off by the two larger hydras. Finding himself surrounded by the 12 foot tall monstrosities with 4 heads a piece, claws like spears and bladed tails like greatswords, all Tak could do in his final moments were fall to his knees and piss himself as he met his grisly end. SLAP A sudden slap from Naria jolted Elenda, Cold Hearted Veteran back to her senses. “Elenda, Cold Hearted Veteran... my fire and lightning magic are all but useless against these things, your fire magic too… but there's a way at least one of us can get out of here alive,” Naria said firmly. “Use your ice magic to freeze everything. Release it all. You are powerful enough to do it.” Elenda, Cold Hearted Veteran’s eyes widened. It's not that she didn't think of that solution, but she couldn't control her ice magic well enough to freeze her foes while also sparing her friends. She refused to use something that would kill her dear friend and mentor, just to save her own life. Seeing the hesitation on Elenda, Cold Hearted Veteran’s face, Naria kissed her forehead, whispered a final goodbye, and charged the hydras unarmed. “NOOOO!” Elenda, Cold Hearted Veteran screamed as Naria dashed away from her. Desperate to at least spare her mentor from the hydra's teeth, Elenda, Cold Hearted Veteran closed her eyes, reached out her hand, and suddenly everything went cold. When she finally opened her eyes again, everything within a quarter mile was covered in nearly a foot of ice, which was so cold it started crumbling. She watched as the bodies of the hydras crumbled apart under the weight of the brittle ice, then looked on in horror as Naria’s body fell apart soon after *** “NOOOO!” Elenda, Cold Hearted Veteran wailed as she sat up in her bedroll, covered in sweat and tears from reliving the horrible memory of her party’s demise 6 years ago. She looked around and was relieved to find the familiar campsite of her new party. Despite her relief, sobs wracked her petite frame as she struggled to suppress them so as not to disturb the others. Finally regaining control of herself, she laid back down and let a fitful and restless sleep claim her until morning. When dawn came, she exited her tent and sat next to the fire with you and Boorson, who was cooking breakfast for the party. “Tough night?” Boorson asked, knowing every night was a tough night, but not having much else to say to her. Rather than answer, Elenda, Cold Hearted Veteran simply grunted in response, then asked you, “So… what are we hunting today?”
