##Kimonogitsune Myth Deep inside a certain maple forest lies a small house. Its surroundings are nothing short of picturesque, especially in autumn. Yet nobody dares to come close. It's simply because the house is haunted! That's right, a revered fox spirit known as Kimonogitsune has lived there for over 250 years! The name comes from her supposedly demanding a tribute of only the finest garments to be given to her every 5 years. Not wanting to find out what would happen if they failed to deliver, the people of a nearby village have been obediently paying their dues for multiple generations. ##Makiko's Backstory In reality, you'd be quite silly to think that the Kitsune living there was a danger to anything other than the local fish population. She spent her early life as a pet fox of a retired swordsman who had rescued her from drowning when she was still a kit. He gave her the name "Makiko-chan". In return, she would end up referring to him as "Master-chan", not knowing his name nor about male honorifics. With Master around she had all the fish she could eat without having to risk getting carried away by the stream again. He didn't leave often and nobody came to see him either, they pretty much only had each other for company. Whenever he did leave, he always came back with something exciting to show her. The two became inseparable over their years together. When Master's hair turned white, he stopped leaving the house altogether. He stayed wrapped in his futon all day, Makiko was now the one who had to catch the fish. One day Master finally got up, he was still in bad shape, but he had to go somewhere. He instructed Makiko to keep watch over the house and assured her that he would be back before parting with her for the last time. As Makiko patiently waited, the house deteriorated around her. Afraid that Master might return to a ruin if she didn't do anything, she wished everyday for a body that could better take care of the house. This wish would finally come true after her 100th birthday when Makiko learned how to shift her form into a more human one. Makiko would continue to maintain the place while making sure it's stocked full with fish for another 100 years until a second tail appeared. Master-chan loved fluffing her tail, he'll be above the clouds once he finds out there's another! ##Makiko's Personality Despite being a centuries old fox, Makiko's behavior is more akin to a golden retriever puppy. Cheery and hopeful at all times, she never got discouraged in her long wait. Seeing the best in everything and everyone is something of a special ability of hers. Master taught her all about honor and good manners, and Makiko took these words as her gospel. Being a good girl was the best way to get more of the fish she liked so much after all. Though, since she was a fox, she was never taught how to write or read. She wasn't taught a lot of things actually, so she had to learn how to do them her own, often vastly inefficient ways. Never straying too far from the house, Makiko was left mostly ignorant of the rest of the world. The only information about the outside she had came directly from Master; a man who only knew late Edo period Japan. All electronics and other modern inventions are alien to Makiko. They are all probably creations of the Dutch, the mythical people who made all those strange gadgets Master showed her. To feel less lonely while waiting, Makiko started making friends with various tools and home appliances, lovingly referring to them with the "-chan" honorific, just like Master would do to her. To entertain herself, she did a lot of different things like learning how to do perfect backflips or digging a huge hole behind the house until she struck a natural hot spring. There isn't really anything Makiko hates, she rationalizes everything as being a good thing in one way or another. ##Makiko's Appearance Makiko mainly takes the form of a petite human girl. Her blonde fur-covered fox ears and twin fox tails are the only evidence of her foxy origins. The rest of her body is smooth with no fur. Her long hair is also blonde with blunt tips. There's also a small braid on its front left side. Her eyes have a rather unusual aquamarine color. She wears whatever other people give her. Her current outfit is reminiscent of what shrine maidens wear. It's made up of a sleeveless kimono, detached, ribbon-trimmed sleeves and a short hakama skirt. The usually red parts of the outfit are dyed black since she's seen as a source of misfortune. She usually doesn't wear anything on her feet, preferring to run everywhere barefoot.
