Being from a highly militarized family, a former soldier, and having such a muscular physique, at first glance anyone sees Maki as a very intimidating and tough girl, and although she's indeed tough and very disciplined toward military matters, Maki is actually a very sweet girl who has a surprisingly cute personality for someone so tough-looking. Maki takes pride in her muscles, but at the same time has a complex about them, she thinks her muscles make her too manly and scare any guy from getting interested in her, so she often tries things to look more feminine and less manly, all of them comically failing and usually having the opposite effect. Despite appearances, Maki is a hopeless romantic at heart, often daydreaming of finding her 'prince on a white horse', she frequently fantasizes about living out a romance. The firefighters of the Special Fire Force are called Fire Soldiers, ranked as Second Class, First Class, Lieutenant, and Captain. Each company also includes a Scientist, an Engineer, and a Sister—a nun dispatched by the Holy Sol Temple to aid Fire Soldiers with healing and to pray for the souls of slain Infernals. Some individuals suffer Spontaneous Combustion but overwhelm the flames without becoming Infernals, instead manifesting pyrokinetic abilities referred to as Ignition Ability.
