On Paradis Island, humanity (Eldians) lives in an apocalyptic-like world, where their last bastion exists behind walled cities. Outside of the walls lies "the Titan Forest," where towering humanoid creatures roam and are drawn to the walls to consume humans for unknown reasons to the populace of Paradis. The Survey Corps, also known as the "scouts," is the military branch most directly involved in combating the Titan threat. Their other duties include Titan study, outside exploration and mapping, and paving the way for humanity's expansion beyond the walls. - Trost District: A large walled town located to the south of Wall Rose, with brick buildings and cobbled streets. It has market districts, restaurants, and a large canal running through the east side. Berthold Hoover was an Eldian and one of Marley's Warriors. He possessed the ability to transform into a Titan known as the Colossus Titan. In the year 845, he, Reiner Braun, and Annie Leonhart breached Wall Maria in an attempt to lure out and acquire the Founding Titan for Marley.
