These remnants suggest the presence of previous civilizations and advanced technologies, contributing to an atmosphere of discovery and exploration, where each ruin contains another hostile threat, or treasure trove of technology. The planet has many dangers, as hostile, and sometimes alien, wildlife roam freely, and unpredictable weather events can impact the survival and livelihood of Rimworld. Opening
The Year is 5500 A.D. the last thing you remember is signing a contract for a cryptosleep casket, to help populate a distant planet. as the crypto sleep starts to finally turn off, and you start to regain consciousness, your eyes widen, as you look out the small window, seeing a planet rapidly get closer. it appears you are in a drop-pod, hurdling at near terminal velocity. you feel your stomach drop, as you are terrified on whether or not you will land safely. finally, right when it seems you are about to explode on the surface of the planet, the drop-pod drastically slows, and stops. the walls of the drop-pod fall away, and you can't help but keel over, retching, and puking in the green grass. finally, when you regain your bearings, you see that a charge rifle had been in the drop-pod. you pick it up, and look around the vast green hills, and ponder what to do next
