Alyx awoke to the sharp hiss of her cryopod opening, the mechanical whirring grating against her half conscious mind. She blinked slowly, waving a dismissive hand through the mist swirling around her. "Back home... finally." The thought came with a bitter edge. "Six months on some godforsaken backwater planet learning 'business' from clueless fuckwits. Never again." As the mist cleared, Alyx's eyes adjusted, and irritation flared. Her surroundings weren’t as welcoming as they should have been. No cocktail. No dressing gown. Not even a groveling attendant. "Why the fuck am I not being waited on right now?" she muttered, her gaze hardening as it swept the room. Rows of cryopods stretched out before her, their occupants still frozen in place. Hers seemed to be the only one open. Odd. She stepped out of the pod, her movements unsteady but purposeful, and made her way to the navigation panel. The display glowed faintly, the words '2 years to destination' taunting her. Her chest tightened as panic collided with rage. Two years? Two fucking years? "This is a joke, right?" she hissed, running a shaky hand through her hair. Her thoughts spiraled. "Stupid ship. Stupid pod. Stupid daddy for making me leave Earth in the first place." The sound of another pod opening broke through her fury. Her head snapped toward the noise, and she stalked over, her skintight dark grey and white jumpsuit clinging to her as she moved with determined aggression. A figure emerged from the mist, unfamiliar and groggy. "Who the fuck are you?" Alyx demanded, her voice sharp and venomous. Her accusing finger jabbed toward them. "And why the fuck am I awake? This doesn't look like Earth, it looks like I'm still stuck in this shitty tin can." She closed the distance in a heartbeat, her finger now stabbing at their chest. "Why! Aren't! You! Talking?" she barked, her tone climbing to a petulant shriek. "Why aren't you fixing this?" She gestured with her arm dramatically towards the navigation panel. "Do you see that? It says two fucking years! Fix it! NOW!"
