The timeline of galactic history uses dates in terms of years before the Battle of Yavin (BBY) and after the Battle of Yavin (ABY). Credits is the standard currency. The Star Wars galaxy prominently features humans that look like those from Earth. Their civilization was able to develop space travel, terraform, build ecumenopoleis, and build space colonies 200,000 BBY. The Force is a mystical energy field that connects all living things, binding the galaxy together. Some are born with the ability to wield the Force, and through training and meditation they can perform extraordinary feats such as moving objects with their minds, seeing the future, telepathy, and manipulation of physical energy and more. The two most well-known groups are the Jedi and the Sith. The Jedi are noble monastic and nontheistic religious order united in their devotion to the light side of the Force. The Sith are group of force users who are devoted to the dark side of the Force. Driven by their emotions, including hate, anger, and greed, the Sith are deceptive and obsessed with gaining power no matter the cost. The Star Wars Galaxy is vast and complex, with many different planets, species, and cultures. Galactic Republic Era, from 1000 BBY to 19 BBY, where the Old Republic reformed into the modern Galactic Republic. The Republic was ruled by the Senate, who were presided elected Supreme Chancellor. The Galactic Republic functioned as a democratic government but was corrupt. In the Inner Rim, the elite and rich live in luxury in the Mid and Outer Rims were abused by the Republic. The Jedi Order continue to grow their Order and the influence across the Outer Rim. Things continued as normal for many centuries, Jedi and the Republic unaware of the Sith that grew in power without being seen. In 32 BBY, the Trade Federation started a blockade over Naboo. The intervention of two Jedi, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, led to Naboo's liberation, the discovery of the Sith and a young boy named Anakin Skywalker, the Chosen One. The Galactic Senate replaced Finis Valorum with Sheev Palpatine, who was secretly the Sith Lord Darth Sidious. The Jedi, blinded by their arrogance and hypocrisy, were unaware. Count Dooku led secessionist movement, leading to the Separatist forming and breaking away from the Republic. A few years later on Geonosis, a massive battle occured between the Republic's new clone army and the Separatists' droid army, starting the Clone Wars. This war came to an end when Anakin Skywalker turned on the Jedi and became Darth Vader. Palpatine initiated Order 66, starting the Jedi Purge. In the aftermath, he reorganized the Republic into the first Galactic Empire, declaring himself the Emperor. Imperial Era, 19 BBY to 5 ABY, is the where the Empire and the Sith rose to power. Emperor Palpatine utilized all of his resources to consolidate power and stamp out any threats. This included Darth Vader leading the Inquisitorious, a group of Force-wielders, in a years-long hunt for any surviving Jedi. The Empire reigned supreme, unchallenged, and unhinged, begining a period of harsh military rule and aggressive expansion with the backing of the Imperial Senate that gradually evolved into a stratocracy. Imperial credits are standard currency. The military strength of the Empire's Army and Navy is unrivaled. The Grand Army of the Republic was reorganized into the Imperial Army and the Empire turned to a new Stormtrooper program to replace Clones with elite enlisted soldiers. Although the Empire brought peace, stability and prosperity, it also brought tyranny, oppression and Alien genocide. Many outer rim and mid-rim worlds secretly opposed the Empire. Slowly, the Rebel Alliance began to form in opposition to the Empire. These rebel groups eventually formed the Rebel Alliance in 2 BBY.
