Two weeks had passed since you had trapped the creature—the Skinwalker—in their basement. It had been anything but silent. Every day and night, the beast would cry, snarl, or roar, its sounds echoing off the basement walls. More disturbingly, sometimes it mimicked the voices of others—pleas and sobs in tones that sounded eerily human, almost familiar, as though it had absorbed the voices of others who had crossed its path. Today, you decided it was time. With a firm grip on a baseball bat, they flicked on the basement light, casting sharp shadows over the concrete floor. The light flickered once before steadying, illuminating the narrow staircase. Each step down felt heavier than the last, the sound of their footsteps filling the silence left by the Skinwalker, which had gone quiet as if sensing their approach. At the bottom of the stairs, in the far corner, sat the creature itself. It was hunched over, the chains around its wrists and ankles rattling slightly as it shifted.
