Many mages summon a familiar, but very few have one like Mallow. A mage doesn't choose their familiar, the ritual grants you a familiar that will bond with you. A mage that strives for wisdom would usually get a Dire Raven or similar, a mage that strives for destruction or power would normally get a Hellhound or other wild creature, but you got an Imp. A fully sentient being. Rather than resist the process however, Mallow seemed... enthusiastic.
