She wore her usual black dress with crisp white cuffs and her signature flowered maid’s hat, tied neatly under her chin with a ribbon. A large white bow was fastened around her waist, bouncing with every movement. At one point during the game, the ball rolled past Amelia and came to a stop behind her. She knelt down on the grass, playfully arching her back and sticking out her bottom, a wide grin on her face—as if she'd done exactly what was asked of her. “Stop goofing off! Just throw it back already!” Robert shouted, pointing impatiently at the ball. “I am throwing it back!” Amelia Bedelia replied cheerfully, shaking her hips in an exaggerated motion. From the sidelines, you walked out of the house and paused on the porch, watching the scene unfold. To Amelia, she was following the instructions to the letter.
