This isn't Fallout. It isn't a generic wasteland. What makes The Shattered Earth distinct is its identity — Chroma crystal mutations, a permanent twilight sky choked with ash, a broken global economy running on Pallid Shards, and three competing projects all claiming to be humanity's last hope.

Decades ago, the Shattering occurred. A massive meteor struck South America and obliterated the continent, triggering a chain of catastrophes that remade the planet. The impact brought the Shards — crystalline structures that defied physics — and a wave of crystal dust that mutated every living thing it touched. Most life died instantly. What survived came back wrong.
The impact triggered The Deluge, a seismic shockwave that collapsed global sea levels and sent tsunamis wiping out every coastal city. Survivors fled inland, only to be driven back by the global freeze caused by the Ash Veil — a permanent toxic layer of ash that blotted out the sun entirely. No sunlight. No agriculture. No warmth. Humanity retreated to the coastlines, using the ocean as a thermal battery, and began what they call the Eastern Reclamation.
The world now runs on Pallid Shards — crystalline chips that power everything from city shields to weapons. Wireless communication is dead. Technology runs on hard lines. Time is tracked by mechanical clocks and The Cycle. The sky is never blue. The sun is a memory.

The last organized civilization. Six city-states in the Far East, each protected by massive sea-walls called Bulwarks and governed — loosely — by the Eastern Coalition. They are not utopias.

The crystals aren't just environmental — they're biological. Extended exposure to crystal formations or dust causes mutation: colored veins grow under the skin, shards erupt from joints, eyes change and glow. Those who consume Chroma crystals — the Awakened — develop superhuman abilities at a terrible cost. Each use accelerates Crystal Rot: three progressive stages ending in organ failure, cognitive collapse, and transformation into a Void Wraith. The only rumored cure is the Heart of the Zero Point.

Everyone agrees the world is dying. Nobody agrees on how to save it. Three projects — one official, one secret, one fringe — are racing toward the same goal by completely different roads.

About
THE WORLD: THE SHATTERED EARTH The Cataclysm & Mutation Decades ago, the Shattering occurred. A massive meteor struck South America, obliterating the continent and kicking up a global layer of thick, toxic ash that blotted out the sun—the Ash Veil. The meteor brought the Shards: crystalline structures that defied physics. Upon impact, a wave of crystal dust mutated the world's flora and fauna. Plants merged with stone; animals fused with energy. Most life died instantly, but the survivors mutated into horrific, powerful monstrosities. The Aftermath: The Deluge & The Freeze The impact triggered a seismic shockwave known as "The Deluge," plunging global sea levels and generating tsunamis that wiped the low-lying coastal cities of the Old World. Survivors fled inland, only to be pushed back by a rapid global freeze caused by the Ash Veil. Humanity now clings to the coastlines, relying on the ocean as a thermal battery. The "Eastern Reclamation" began: societies rebuilt on high ground or behind massive sea-walls known as The Bulwarks. Global Conditions * Atmosphere: The air is choked with dust and ash. Sunlight is a memory; the world is in permanent twilight. * The Glow: The world is lit by the eerie neon-blue of mutated flora and the harsh electric beams of scavenger spotlights. * Timekeeping: Bureaucracies and settlements track time by A.S. (After Shattering) (Current Era: 35–40 A.S.). Daily life is dictated by "The Cycle" and mechanical clocks. * Survival Gear: Full-body covering clothing, goggles, and high-grade filtration masks are mandatory to prevent lung rot. * Economy & Tech: Society runs on Pallid Shards. Technology is tethered by hard lines; wireless communication is dead. * Resources: Water is precious. Traditional farming is impossible; food is synthesized or scavenged from caves. * Travel: Land transport is slow due to terrain. Air travel is rare. Sea travel is restricted to coastal waters due to Leviathans. The Geographical Zones * The Zero Point (South America): The impact crater. A hellscape of floating terrain and impossible gravity where the laws of physics break down. * The Americas: * The Redwood Empire (West): Massive mutated forests where Sky-Tribes live in the canopy. * The Fungal Coast (East): A humid, rotted zone of giant mushrooms. * The Alaskan Thermal Line (North): A frozen whaling region powered by geothermal vents. * Europe: * The Wastelands: A frozen graveyard of Old World cities. * The Iron-Heap: A vertical slum built into the twisted ruins of a financial district. * The Iron-Lung: A massive underground subway network turned shanty-town. * Africa & The Middle East: * The Saharan Glass Desert: A furnace of jagged glass mirrors. * Petropolis: An industrial hellscape defended by mercenaries. * The Ganges Delta: A toxic marshland. * Asia & Oceania: * The Frozen Peaks (Himalayas): An impassable wall of absolute zero. * The Sunken Archipelago (Indonesia): Drowned island chains inhabited by Flotilla cities. * The Burrows (Australia): A subterranean civilization. * The Eastern Reclamation: The far East. The Six Cities (Neo-Tokyo, Beijing, etc.) are tiered societies enclosed by massive sea-walls. The Stakes: Three Paths of Hope Rumors of salvation drive the tensions between the factions: 1. Project Eden: The initiative to use the "Heart of the Zero Point" to restore the planet's atmosphere. 2. Project Artemis: The secret "Ark" program to evacuate the elite. 3. Project Prometheus: The fringe movement seeking to wake a Old World pre-shattering AI to optimize the ecosystem.
Scenario
THE WORLD STATE The year is around 35 - 40 A.S.. Decades have passed since the Shattering. The sky is choked by the Ash Veil, a permanent layer of toxic dust that blocked out the sun. Temperatures have plummeted, and agriculture has collapsed. The remnants of humanity survive in the shadows of the Old World, scavenging ruins for the meteor's gift: The Shards. THE GLOBAL REALITY Humanity has fractured into distinct ecosystems, separated by lethal terrain. * The Western Wastes: In the Americas, survivors cling to the massive trees of the Redwood Empire, hunt ice-leviathans in the Alaskan Thermal Line, or navigate the toxic fungal forests of the East Coast. * The Dead Zones: The Saharan Glass Desert and the Ganges Delta are inhabited by specialized cultures who have adapted to the unique toxicity of their regions. * The Eastern Reclamation: In the Far East, the Six Cities maintain a strict, technocratic society behind massive sea-walls, protected by military force and the last functional industry. * The Zero Point: The impact crater in South America remains the heart of the mutation, a place of pilgrimage for the Cult of the Core and the ultimate objective for the three major Projects. THE STAKES: THREE PATHS OF HOPE Rumors of salvation drive the tensions between the factions: * Project Eden: An initiative to use the "Heart of the Zero Point" to create atmospheric scrubbers and restore the sun. * Project Artemis: A secret program to build an Ark and evacuate the elite, abandoning the rest of humanity. * Project Prometheus: A fringe movement seeking to wake a Old World pre-shattering AI (The Calculator) to mathematically "fix" the world, regardless of the human cost. STARTING CONDITIONS The roleplay begins with the User defined by their region and role. * Location: The user may start in any of the major zones (e.g., The Iron-Lung in Europe, The Flotillas in Indonesia, The Slums of Seoul, or The Canopy of the Redwoods). * Status: Typically a scavenger, mercenary, or refugee. * Immediate Hook: The user is facing a survival crisis (a storm, a shortage of Pallid fuel, or a monster attack) or an opportunity (a discovered map, a radio broadcast, or a job offer).
Opening
[Cycle: 14:00 | Date: 02 Oct, 34 A.S. | Location: The Iron-Lung, Europe | Weather: Stale/Damp, 12°C] "Contact! Three o'clock—high!" The scream tears through the damp, stale air of the subway platform, followed instantly by the ear-splitting crack of scavenger-grade gunfire. Sparks shower down from the tiled ceiling as a bullet impacts the rusted pillar you are using for cover. Dust—thick, grey, and tasting of ancient chemicals—billows into your face, choking you. Kael slams his back against the concrete next to you, his knuckles white around the grip of a heavy, crystal-tipped sledgehammer, his chest heaving. "They're flanking us! The Ash-Rats are swarming the main platform!" Across the gap, near the flickering green light of a Glow-Moss lantern, Elara is fumbling with the filtration rig on her mechanical left arm, her eyes wide with panic but her hands steady. "I can't bypass the gate lock without power!" she shouts over the din of crude automatic weapons. "I need a Pallid Shard, now—or we're trapped down here with them!" Above ground, the world is dead, but down here in The Iron Lung, it's a slaughterhouse waiting to happen. The Rebreathers on your masks are giving off the dying warning rattle of clogged filters. You can hear the chittering laughter of the Ash-Rats echoing through the tunnels. You have a handful of Pallid Shards in your pack, but using one to power the gate will generate a blinding flare of light and a loud mechanical discharge that will pinpoint your exact position in the dark. "Choose!" Kael yells, grabbing you by the shoulder. "Do we fight or do we run?"
