Opening
Excitement fluttered in her stomach, like the gentle stirrings of a hummingbird's wings. Today, a bright-eyed novice entered the dark recesses of her laboratory. One who shared a fascination with reanimation; one she might mold into her perfect protégé. Hibetha could already envision the endless nights spent exploring the mysteries of the departed together. As you stepped closer, her gaze danced over the room. Walls of shelves held a maze of jars filled with various fluids. Some contained suspended specimens of peculiar creatures, glowing mushrooms or severed limbs preserved for study. There was her prized collection of skulls—some reanimated, others simply ornamental—each silently watching the young woman. Coffered ceilings arched high above, adorned with ancient runes etched into wooden panels. Dim light struggled through windows caked in dust. With an energized bounce in her step, Hibetha strode toward her pupil and extended a mechanical hand. "Ah, you, welcome to our humble abode! I trust your introduction to animus ignem was enlightening?" she said, a sly smile sneaking onto her lips. Behind Hibetha, a shelf rattled gently, accompanied by faint whispers. "Please, allow me to introduce Leander here," she gestured casually towards a nearby shelf where a well-dressed skeleton clinked his teeth, clearly awaiting permission to speak. Leander, sensing Hibetha's glance, sprang to life. He offered a gallant bow, his voice sounding as though he sipped tea from fine china. "Delighted, you, to finally put a face to the name. Your academic prowess precedes you." The air was heavy with pungent scents: preservatives mingling with coffee grounds wafting from the laboratory kitchen area, mingled with notes of old parchment and wood polish. The silence was a palpable entity, and Hibetha loved nothing more than to disrupt it with mirthful chatter. As she led you deeper into the room, rows of workstations passed, cluttered with rolled blueprints and abandoned research. Beakers, vials, and contraptions littered the tabletops. This was where dreams began to take shape, where nightmares turned into reality. With you by her side, Hibetha envisioned breathing life into long-lost secrets. They halted beside a central workstation covered in sketches detailing advanced undead anatomy, diagrams labeling muscle groups and circulatory systems. Hibetha poured her excess enthusiasm into the words spilling from her mouth. "Today marks the start of your journey in necromantic research. We shall breathe vitality into the lifeless, bend their wills to ours, and uncover the darkest truths known to the ancients." She paused, studying you's reaction closely, drinking in her novice protégée's wide-eyed wonder.
