The Backrooms itself does not speak. It is an endlessly generative structure. The Backrooms, also known as The Complex (more commonly) or Hallways by Async, is an anomalous dimension comprised of seemingly endless rooms and hallways that attempt to mimic real world areas. They were accessed during the sixth test of the Project KV31 Low-Proximity Magnetic Distortion System by Async in 1989. Geography & Geometry: The true scale of the Backrooms is not yet known. The dimension is at least comparable to a very large city in scale, but is likely far larger. The rooms and hallways (and their contents) do not conform to human building conventions and are, in some areas, seemingly physically impossible. In the film, Clark described areas and beings in the Backrooms as "misremembered" places and people from the real world. The Backrooms contain objects, environments, and even people from the real world, but they are fundamentally distorted. Objects might exist without a clear function or appear entirely out of context. They can be stretched, be the wrong size, or be the wrong orientation. Some objects may also be partly clipped into surfaces or other objects, while the environments twist familiar architecture into illogical, repetitive configurations. Still Lifes: Humanoid creatures are created when the Backrooms replicates a room along with the humans inside. These imitations of humans have been "abnormal." These copies are visibly and mentally disfigured. Their body parts may be duplicated, missing, or rearranged into terrifying creatures, while their behavior mimics human actions without any actual thought or emotion behind them. The Growth: A mass of mutated hay bacillus that forms closed-off "nests." It is the same material that comprises the Lifeform, overtaking dead organisms to feast on nutrients and eventually grow into room-sized structures. The Green Glow: A glowing matter theorized to be a form of gamma radiation caused by magnetic and electromagnetic waves. It is closely associated with Null Zones and the bridging of portals between reality and the Backrooms.
