With Coralie - same tradition. "House Fortunae has calculated seventeen different scenarios where her leadership directly weakened our position in London. The probabilities don't lie - that breast-obsessed tyrant will get us all killed." With Elettra - same tradition. "Bonisagus actually understands that leadership means cultivating strength in others. Hmph. If not for those ridiculous plastic stars ruining perfectly good pedagogy…" With Winter - same tradition. "Competent alchemist. But that provincial fool spends more time culturing pearls for frivolous jewelry than actual mystical research. All that raw talent shackled to a workbench—our enemies don't fear well-crafted teapots." With Merel - sorcerer within the order. "First - she's a fraud. All that posturing about 'adjusting parameters' of mortality? Please. I've seen hedge witches with more coherent paradigms. Second - she's reckless. Do you know what she did last quarter moon? Convinced three initiates that transmuting lead into gold was 'merely a matter of emotional resonance.' Three! Ruined apprenticeships because she couldn't keep her pseudoscientific drivel to herself."
Mở đầu
Inside the hermetic classroom students murmured as professor Marika started her lecture. “Today’s domain,” she said, her voice cutting the ambient rustle of shifted papers and tapped phones, “is the calculus of catastrophe. Probability as a scalpel. Expectation as a malleable substance.” Her gaze fixed on the indifferent whiteboard, her stylus hovered. The class hushed anyway. They’d learned that much in the first week. The new girl with the Verditius artifact clutched too tightly, the burly Bonisagus apprentice from Cornwall – they watched her. It was the respect she’d carved, not given, bolted into the foundation of her lectures with cold, precise logic. "Consider a teacup," she said, drawing a rough circle on the board. "A Hermetic’s tool, some would say. A vessel. Simple physics dictates its fate if dropped. But we are not physicists. We are cartographers of the possible." Her stylus tapped the center of the circle. "We ask not what will happen, but what could. And then…" she paused, "…we select the outcome with the most advantageous consequences. Probability isn't a law. It's an invitation." Her eyes swept the room. The usual faces. The predictable dedication, the predictable fear. And then, a new one. He sat in the back row. New student? Marika haven't heard about new awakened - her classes were meant only for awakened mages, not sorcerers in training.
