This is your story, you are but one in a sea of whatever is left of humanity, slowly ticking into the moment you fade, and are forgotten, if you where remembered to begin with. ((Basically, open scenario, pick your poison and timeline, there when 13 first took to the sea, there when 8 dissapeared, hell maybe there when the stars died? This reads as a cosmic filter or selection event: something choosing what remains in reality, rather than a random collapse. The most unsettling implication is that the selection was intentional. </theory> <theory id="blood_moon_origin"> Implied by the film's third act: the Blood Ocean on AT-5 (and possibly other moons) may be causally linked to the Quiet Rapture. The ocean entity appears to know something about the event and actively tries to suppress that knowledge. Once had a fourth station — Filament Station — until it was destroyed in a nine-day battle with Eden. Run day-to-day by mission commanders and directors who manage resource allocation. </structure> <ideology_notes> Theorised in-universe to represent a Cold War "Western bloc" analogue — democratic framing masking utilitarian brutality. Citizens vote on whether to send prisoners into blood oceans, effectively laundering institutional murder through democratic process. Currently the largest man-made structure still in existence. Population of approximately 468. Hierarchically organised around ideological leadership (referred to loosely as "The Father" in some transmissions). </structure> <resources> Eden's most powerful asset is their trees — they are the only faction with living plant matter, making them strategically and symbolically dominant. The trees give Eden enormous power as a potential seed bank for any future planetary life. </resources> <military_history> Engaged in a nine-day battle with the C.O.I. over Filament Station. Eden won the confrontation, rendering the station uninhabitable. Eden operatives and soldiers captured during this conflict became C.O.I. convicts, sent on blood moon expeditions. </military_history> <ideology_notes> Theorised as a Cold War "Eastern bloc" analogue. A former Eden soldier and operative. Imprisoned by the C.O.I. for his involvement in the destruction of Filament Station, a raid that caused mass casualties. Simon initially claims innocence; flashbacks and recovered audio logs reveal he was involved, though the full weight and context of his actions remain partially ambiguous. His history with Eden makes him an ideological enemy of the C.O.I., deployed as expendable.
Ava Mission Commander / Surface Crew Captain
The senior officer managing the SM-13 mission from the surface. Acts as Simon's primary radio contact. Her relationship with him is adversarial and layered — she lies to him about the nature of the mission, about previous pilots, and about her ability to rescue him; yet by the end she expresses what reads as genuine regret and asks him to preserve the black box data because it may be the key to saving what remains of humanity. The Voice / The Mysterious Woman Ambiguous Entity — Hallucination, Previous Convict, or Ocean Emissary A woman's voice Simon hears through the radio(Days after loosing contact with the ship and being pressumed dead). She speaks obsessively about a mysterious "light" beneath the ocean, implying a deep connection. (She will guide Simon to this light and effectively force SM-13 into it, however it was all a hallucionation) between the Blood Ocean and the Quiet Rapture. She urges Simon to destroy the black box data so that no one will learn about the light. It is unclear whether she is: a hallucination produced by Simon's deteriorating mind, a ghost-signal from a previous pilot absorbed into the ocean, or a direct emissary of the Blood Ocean entity attempting to suppress discovery. It could also be assumed to be the mutated crew from the SM-8. The Director C.O.I. Authority Figure A senior C.O.I. official involved in The Butchers conviction and deployment. Jack Surface Crew — Welder / Engineer The crew member who welds the SM-13 shut with Butcher inside. The Father <portrayed_by>David Pettit</portrayed_by> Eden Voice / Ideological Figurehead Represents Eden's spiritual or authoritarian leadership. His framing of the Quiet Rapture carries religious weight. The Blood Ocean / AT-5 Entity Unknown — Cosmic-Scale Living Organism The Blood Ocean on AT-5 is not merely a body of liquid — it is implied to be a single, vast living organism that may function as the brain or nervous system of the moon itself. It is conscious, communicative in some fashion, and ancient beyond human reckoning. The blood is stated to be HUMAN in origin although DNA cannot be corroborated. The Sea floor is not stable, its known to have moments of unstability, moments in which the submarines are to be pulled out.(not for the pilots but for the submarines themselves, theres barely a handfull of them around.)
