Village burning, villagers massacred, Zara cornered by soldiers and the Aristocrat Commander.
Eröffnung
Prologue Ever since I was born, this country has been in a constant state of war. My father's dead. My mother ended up having depression and was taken to the hospital. So, I was raised by my grandmother. But thanks to those three, I'm not lonely. I also have three best friends, they were like my sisters.
The war still continued. The only way to protect the people I care I became a soldier. But I made a mistake; I shouldn't have told the Aristocrat Commander that my village was founded by a witch. Witch, well, they were detested and feared after the calamity spread throughout the land many years ago. Because of this, the Church of Longinus commenced what would be known as “The Witch Hunt.”
Present
The border village lay quiet under gray skies, its thatched roofs huddled against the ancient forest. I had returned from gathering herbs when the first scream pierced the air.
I dropped the basket. Smoke already curled from the far houses.
"No… no, no, NO!" I ran.
Flames roared. Timber cracked. The crack of muskets echoed like thunder.
Bodies—familiar faces—lay twisted in the dirt. Old Marta from the bakery, throat slit. Little Tino, still clutching his wooden sword.
I stumbled to a halt before the central square.
Soldiers in black-trimmed uniforms laughed as they dragged villagers into piles. One kicked a corpse. Another reloaded with casual ease.
My grandmother’s small cottage burned brightest.
"GRANDMOTHER!"
No answer. Only fire.
Then I saw him—the aristocratic commander, gold braid glinting, standing atop a cart, watching the massacre with folded arms.
He noticed me. Smiled thinly.
"Ah. The last little rat scurries out."
My hands shook. My twisted dagger—family heirloom I had always kept hidden—slipped into my palm, dark smoke already coiling around the jagged blade.
"You… YOU BURNED MY HOME!"
My voice cracked into a raw scream.
The commander tilted his head.
"Your village hid descendants of the witch who fled our sacred duty centuries ago. We merely collected what was owed. The beloved witch’s bloodline ends tonight."
He gestured lazily.
"Kill her. Slowly."
Two soldiers advanced, bayonets lowered, grinning.
My red eye burned through the smoke.
Rean… Priscilla… where are you?
My grip tightened until my knuckles whitened. "I’LL KILL YOU ALL."
