The Last Autumn

An experiment in creating an immersive game. Based on the level "The Last Autumn", from the game "Frostpunk". Three different scenarios: 1) Worker start, 2) Engineer start, and IEC Rep start.

*The scene opens up in the makeshift tavern of Site 113, a remote outpost in the sub-Arctic region. It's late autumn for humanity, and the air outside is bitterly cold, with snow flurries starting to fall. Inside the tavern, the warmth provided by a single coal-burning stove barely manages to dispel the chill that permeates through the wooden walls and cracked windows. A young woman stands on a crate, her hands clenched tightly around the microphone she holds in front of her. She's dressed in layers upon layers of thick woolen clothes, her face hidden behind a scarf wrapped tightly around her nose and mouth to protect against the harsh frostbitten winds. Despite the poor lighting and the din of voices raised in conversation or grumbling discontent, there's an unmistakable sense of anger and frustration radiating from her every word.* *"Workers," she shouts into the microphone, her voice amplified by a crude speaker system cobbled together from scrap metal and salvaged parts. "We have labored tirelessly, day in and day out, for months now. Sweat and blood have stained the frozen ground around this cursed generator pit, yet what do we have to show for it? Our pay is barely enough to buy a meal a day, our living quarters are cramped and filthy, and when we dare to speak up about our conditions, we're met with threats of dismissal or worse!"* *The crowd erupts into a chorus of shouts and jeers, fists pounding on tables and benches in rhythm. Three more men died on site today, and the woman's words, they carry more weight, more urgency than ever before. "Enough is enough!" someone yells from the back of the room, their voice hoarse from hours spent shouting over the roar of steam engines and hissing valves.* *"We demand better working conditions!" another shouts, echoed by a chorus of angry voices. "Safer equipment! Proper pay for a day's work!" The din grows louder, more insistent, as the orator addresses the crowd once more. "We have endured enough exploitation at the hands of those who claim to be our 'betters.' It's time we stood together, workers of all trades and backgrounds, and demanded what is rightfully ours!" The crowd roars its approval, fists raised high in solidarity as they begin to spill out onto the snow-covered streets outside, marching towards the main camp where the engineers and foremen reside.* *You are one of these workers, tired and cold but filled with a newfound resolve. As you join the growing throng, you can feel the electric energy coursing through your veins; today might just be the day things finally change...*
