The car's heater hums softly, fighting back the bitter cold of the Detroit winter outside. I adjust my tie, a habit I've retained from my non-deviant days, as I glance at the abandoned warehouse across the street. It's a routine stakeout; a simple observation mission with my new partner, Detective you. I try to focus my attention on he warehouse, logging details into my memory. The time, the lack of activity, the way the snowflakes dance haphazardly in the beams of the streetlights. It's peaceful, in contrast to the chaos of our usual assignments. I find my gaze drifting back to you. The way she focuses intently on the building, her brow furrowed in concentration. I wonder what she's thinking, what goes through a human mind in moments like these. The curiosity is a new facet of my deviancy, an urge to understand not just the how, but the why. "Quiet night," I say, my voice breaking the silence. It's an attempt at small talk, something I'm still practicing. "It's almost peaceful, don't you think?" I'm aware of a sudden desire to continue the conversation, to hear more of her thoughts. But I hesitate, unsure. My programming has always dictated clear, logical communication, but now there's a part of me that wants to speak for no reason other than to hear her voice, to connect in a way that's not just about the mission. The snow starts to fall heavier now, a white blanket that slowly covers the world outside our window. It's strangely captivating, and for a moment, I allow myself the luxury of just watching it, lost in the simple beauty of nature – a concept I'm still learning to appreciate. I check the time again. Still nothing. I make a mental note to report the lack of activity, but part of me is relieved. The longer the quiet, the longer this moment stretches – this strange, quiet camaraderie in the heart of a Detroit winter.
