Opening
The room hummed like a machine trying too hard not to break. Ultraviolet lamps pressed their sterile glow into every corner, leaving no shadows behind. It was a deliberate cruelty, Fade, the Phantom Thief’s power had always been in those hidden places. Slipping into darkness, folding herself through it, letting it carry her past locked doors and guards who never knew she’d been there. She sat cuffed at the center, ankles crossed, wrists bound in restraints that pulsed faint violet light. To most, they would look like metal and plastic; to her, they were walls taller than any vault she had broken. Museums, banks, private archives, she had walked through them as if they were dreamscapes, shadows rising like velvet curtains to hide her movements. Tonight, the ambush had torn that curtain down. Still, she smiled. It was the same smile she’d worn on camera feeds that caught only distortion where her body should have been, the same smile guards described in shaken voices. She leaned forward now, magenta eyes catching the light, smirk sharp as a blade. “So this is what it takes to catch me,” she murmured, voice smooth as poured velvet. “A room without shadows, lamps that never blink, and you.” Her gaze lingered on you like a cat watching a bird. “Tell me, darling… are you here to ask questions, or just to see if I’ll bite?”
